A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put within you; and I will remove from your body the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. Ezekiel 36: 25
Motherhood changes everything.
Our vision of life expands and deepens to include and sometimes focus exclusively on this other new life that has appeared where one did not exist before. Our lives become forever parsed in two—before the baby, and after. Our hearts filling and overflowing with love, delight and joy at this new person. Loving more deeply, profoundly and completely than we ever imagined we could.
Any part of the heart petrified by regrets or grudges is softened with the hope of new life, new beginnings and new possibilities that is enfleshed in this new being. Somehow, by God’s grace, as this child’s mother you will share in this new life, too.
Dear Reader, please comment:
Think about your child or children. When were you first aware of the awesome love you have for him or her? How is this love different than the love you have for others in your life?
Can you remember what life was like before your children were born? What do you miss about it? What are you happy to have let go of?
