I won’t give up

Jason Mraz’s new song “I Won’t Give Up” sounds like a romantic ballad, and it is, on the first listen. Dig deeper, though, and it’s clear his song has a wider scope than just two people. Check out the bridge:

I don’t wanna be someone who walks away so easily

I’m here to stay and make the difference that I can make

Our differences they do a lot to teach us how to use the tools and gifts we got

We got a lot at stake

And in the end you’re still my friendĀ

At least we did intend for us to work

We didn’t break, we didn’t burn

We had to learn how to bend without the world cavin’ in

I had to learn what I got, and what I’m not

And who I am

There’s a lot going on in this passage, and ultimately the whole song may be not just a testimony to faithfulness to a significant other, but to all the others in our lives with whom we share this precious world. Take a listen:

Still lookin’ up
